GGV Organises Special Discussion on Hindu Studies and Contemporary Relevance


Bilaspur : Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, a NAAC A++ accredited Central University, organised a special interactive session on the theme “Hindu Studies: Scope, Relevance and Contemporary Perspective” at the Administrative Building Conference Hall on Saturday.

Presiding over the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Chakrawal said that nation-building can be achieved through determination, commitment, and a deeper understanding of India’s cultural roots. He described the session as an effort to reconnect with ancient Indian heritage while interpreting it in the context of modern global challenges.

Prof. Chakrawal stated that Hindu Studies encompass diverse disciplines including logic, economics, political science, environmental conservation, sociology, and philosophy. He remarked that the principles embedded in Indian knowledge systems offer practical solutions to many global issues faced by humanity today.

He further emphasized that viewing Hindu Studies merely through a religious lens is limiting, adding that it represents a scientific way of life and a comprehensive philosophical framework. Highlighting the Indian ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” he noted that the concept of universal brotherhood is highly relevant in resolving contemporary global conflicts.

The Chief Guest and keynote speaker, Prof. Nachiketa Tiwari, discussed the modern-day significance of Hindu Studies and ancient Indian texts. He explained that several principles of modern science and technology are reflected in seed form within the Vedas and Upanishads.

Prof. Tiwari encouraged students to explore Indian culture with scientific curiosity and openness. According to him, Indian civilization uniquely combines spirituality with scientific inquiry and promotes harmony between humanity and nature. He also appreciated the initiative to integrate Hindu Studies into the academic curriculum as part of holistic and inclusive education.

The programme began with ceremonial lamp lighting and floral tributes to Goddess Saraswati and Guru Ghasidas Baba. The university’s Tarang Band presented Saraswati Vandana during the inaugural session.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. M. N. Tripathi, while Registrar Prof. A. K. Dixit also shared his views during the event.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. R. K. Pradhan. The session was conducted by Prof. Prasenjit Panda.

Faculty members, deans, heads of departments, university officials, and students participated in the discussion and engaged in meaningful interactions on topics related to Indian knowledge traditions, education, and cultural studies.
