Central University of Kashmir Celebrates Tagore Day at Sonamarg
Sonamarg : Central University of Kashmir’s Department of English celebrated Tagore Day at the scenic Sonamarg campus, paying rich tributes to Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore through poetry recitations, scholarly reflections, and multilingual literary performances.
The event highlighted Tagore’s timeless literary, philosophical, and humanistic contributions that continue to inspire generations worldwide.
📚 Tribute to Tagore’s Humanistic Vision
The programme began with a message from Sandhya Tiwari, which was read out by Programme Coordinator Sunil Kumar Mannil.
In her message, Prof. Tiwari described Rabindranath Tagore as:
“A philosopher, novelist, playwright, composer, painter, educator and above all, a humanist whose ideas continue to inspire the world.”
She emphasized Tagore’s vision of holistic education rooted in creativity, nature, humanity, and cultural exchange, referring to the establishment of Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan.

🎭 Students Showcase Multilingual Literary Performances
The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students, and research scholars.
In her welcome address, BA II Semester student Dania spoke about Tagore’s universal outlook, commitment to human values, and his continued relevance in contemporary society.
Students recited Tagore’s poetry and excerpts from his works in multiple languages, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the programme.
Research scholar Debalina Das captivated the audience with a rendition of a Bengali lyric composed by Tagore.
🌍 Poetry Recitations in Kashmiri, English and Urdu
Students including:

- Irtiza
- Mehreen
- Nadia
- Asif
recited Tagore’s poetry in Kashmiri and English with remarkable enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, Marif presented a poem on Tagore in Urdu, enriching the multilingual spirit of the celebration.
🌟 Tagore’s Legacy Continues to Inspire Generations
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Assistant Professor Ihsan ur Rahim Malik reflected on Tagore’s enduring influence on world literature.
Referring to Gitanjali, he highlighted Tagore’s vision of freedom, harmony, and the deep relationship between humanity and nature.
He noted that Tagore’s writings continue to inspire readers and scholars across the globe.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Sheikh Toha Gul.
