Republic Day Celebrated with Patriotic Fervour at BFUHS, Faridkot

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, celebrated the 77th Republic Day of India with great enthusiasm, dignity, and patriotic fervour at the University campus on Monday.
The celebrations began with the unfurling of the National Flag by Prof. (Dr.) Rajeev Sood, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, followed by the National Anthem, creating an atmosphere of pride and unity among faculty members, students, staff, and guests.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Rajeev Sood expressed his sincere gratitude to S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, for his continued guidance and substantial budgetary support to the University. He emphasized that Republic Day is not merely a ceremonial occasion, but a reminder of the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, which guide every academic, clinical, and administrative initiative of BFUHS.
Highlighting the University’s major achievements over the past two years, the Vice-Chancellor informed that MBBS seats at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College & Hospital (GGSMC&H) have been increased from 125 to 250, along with the addition of 275 MBBS seats across Punjab. He also shared updates on the approval of two new Dental Colleges, expansion of nursing and allied health sciences programmes, strengthening of super-specialty medical services, and establishment of advanced healthcare infrastructure, including India’s first Digital PET Scan in the government sector.
Prof. Sood further highlighted BFUHS’s leadership in skill development, medical research, digital transformation, and environmental sustainability, noting that the University has been recognized as India’s First Platinum-Rated Green University, earning prestigious national and international awards.
On the occasion, faculty and staff members were honoured with Appreciation Certificates in recognition of their exemplary and dedicated service to the University.
The celebrations featured an impressive parade by the University Security Staff and inspiring patriotic songs performed by students, adding pride and solemnity to the event.
The function was attended by Mr. Arvind Kumar, Registrar; Dr. Deepak J. Bhatti, Dean Colleges; Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Controller of Examinations; Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Principal; Dr. Neetu Kukkar, Medical Superintendent; Smt. Reeva Sood; Dr. Sanjeev Goyal, President IMA Punjab-Elect, along with faculty members, staff, students from all constituent colleges, and representatives of the media.
In his concluding remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Rajeev Sood reaffirmed BFUHS’s commitment to excellence in healthcare education, patient care, sustainability, and nation-building, and called upon all stakeholders to work collectively towards a healthier, stronger, and self-reliant India.
