IIM Raipur and Tata Steel Foundation Sign MoU for Social Impact Education

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur and the Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) have entered into a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 15, 2026, aimed at strengthening social impact education, public policy engagement, and community immersion.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Sanjeev Parashar, Director-in-Charge, IIM Raipur, and Mr. Sourav Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Foundation, in the presence of Mr. Vinayak Kishore, Consultant, Public Policy, Tata Steel Foundation. The agreement will remain effective until 31 March 2028.
The collaboration seeks to foster joint initiatives across social impact, public policy, strategy, management education, and community-based learning. Under the partnership, both institutions will collaborate on the design and delivery of academic and non-academic programmes, along with the development of social impact-oriented research outputs, including research papers, white papers, and policy reports.
A key highlight of this partnership is the “Management for Social Impact” course, a mandatory half-credit course offered at IIM Raipur. An integral component of this course is “Unurum”, a two-day rural immersion programme facilitated by the Tata Steel Foundation in collaboration with partner NGOs working in rural areas of Chhattisgarh.
The course is designed to expose management students to theoretical frameworks and real-world practices related to social impact, development, and public policy. Through the Unurum social immersion module, students directly engage with rural communities, enabling them to gain first-hand insights into grassroots realities and understand development challenges beyond the classroom.
The programme aims to build awareness, empathy, and sensitivity among future managers towards the socioeconomic challenges faced by vulnerable communities. By centring learning around equity, inclusion, and sustainability, the initiative seeks to shape socially conscious, emotionally intelligent, and transformational leaders.
This partnership underscores IIM Raipur’s commitment to socially relevant management education and reinforces the Tata Steel Foundation’s mission of driving sustainable development through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and community engagement.
