Five-Day Academic Reading and Writing Workshop Begins at Nagaland University

Lumami, Nagaland : A five-day “Academic Reading and Writing Workshop” for PhD scholars commenced on Monday at the Department of Sociology, Nagaland University. The workshop, scheduled from 22nd to 26th September 2025, is organised by the Department of Sociology in collaboration with RC01: Theory and Practice in Sociology, Indian Sociological Society.

The inaugural session was graced by the honourable Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University, Prof. J.K. Patnaik, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Patnaik commended the initiative and encouraged participants to fully utilise the opportunity for their academic growth, calling it a “professionally enriching programme.”

Renowned sociologist Prof. Satish Deshpande, Former Head and Professor, Department of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics, is serving as the resource person for the workshop. Prof. P.S. Vivek, Treasurer of the Indian Sociological Society, was also present at the event.

The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. Temjensosang of the Department of Sociology, who introduced the resource person to the audience. Workshop Organising Secretary Dr. Suraj Beri highlighted the core objective of the programme, stressing the importance of investing in academic reading and writing skills for research excellence.

A total of 32 PhD scholars from various departments of Nagaland University are participating in the workshop. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dipika Paul.

The workshop aims to equip young researchers with critical reading strategies and advanced academic writing techniques, fostering high-quality research and scholarship across disciplines.
