IIT Madras Tops NIRF 2025 Rankings Once Again, Secures No. 1 Position Across Multiple Categories
Chennai, September 4, 2025 : Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has once again reaffirmed its dominance in Indian higher education by securing the No. 1 position in the ‘Engineering’ category for the 10th consecutive year in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025. The institute has also been ranked No. 1 in the ‘Overall’ category for the 7th year in a row, further consolidating its place as a leader in Indian education.
In addition, IIT Madras has emerged as a frontrunner in two new domains:
- It secured the #1 rank in the ‘Innovations’ category (previously known as Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements – ARIIA), improving from its #2 position last year.
- The institute also bagged the top rank in the newly introduced ‘Sustainability Development Goals (SDG)’ category, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
Reacting to this achievement, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said,
