One Week GIAN Course on ‘Structural Biology Techniques and Its Role in Drug Discovery’ Organized at BHU
VARANASI , 17th March 2025 : A one-week course on ‘Structural Biology Techniques and Its Role in Drug Discovery’ is being organized by the School of Biotechnology, ISc, from 17th to 21st March 2025. The course is part of the Ministry of Education’s initiative under the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) program. The course features lectures by Prof. Liang Tong, an esteemed American biochemist and structural biologist, who is also the current Chair of the Biological Sciences Department at Columbia University. Prof. Tong’s expertise in the field of structural biology will provide valuable insights into how these techniques are crucial in advancing drug discovery.

The GIAN program, launched by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, aims to tap into the global talent pool of scientists and entrepreneurs. It encourages their collaboration with higher education institutions in India to enhance academic resources, accelerate quality reforms, and elevate India’s scientific and technological capabilities to global standards.
Various participants from across India are attending the course to gain knowledge and engage in discussions related to cutting-edge research in structural biology and its applications in drug discovery. The inaugural function of the course was chaired by Prof. SK Upadhyay, Dean of the Faculty of Science, in the presence of Prof. Madhu Tapadia, Local Coordinator of GIAN, and Prof. P. Shukla, Course Coordinator for this GIAN course.
This course is expected to foster academic collaboration, enrich the participants’ research capabilities, and contribute to the growth of India’s scientific community.
