Nagaland University Scholars receive awards at National Conference

Nagaland : At the two-day National Conference on Recent Trends in Environmental Pollution and Health (NCRTEPH-2024) during 28-29 November 2024 organized by Nagaland University’s Department of Zoology at Lumami, three scholars received the awards for best oral presentations. One was Ms. Disha Chauhan from Central University of Himachal Pradesh, while the other two, Ms. Noyingbeni M. Odyuo and Mr. Shisak Sharma were from Nagaland University.

Similarly, the awards for the best poster presentations were given to Ms. Priyanka Debnath of Digboi College, Assam, as well as to Ms. Hoamniu P. Khiamniungan and Ms. Priyakshi Saikia, both from Nagaland University.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. J.K. Patnaik, congratulated the scholars for their achievements, expressing satisfaction that four out of six awards were received by our own research scholars.

The conference, which was inaugurated by Prof. Patnaik on 28th November 2024, had featured discussions on pressing issues related to environmental pollutants, particularly microplastics, pesticides, pesticide and heavy metal contamination. Speakers proposed remedial measures to address these pollution problems, emphasizing the need for such efforts to maintain public health, given the increasing number of diseases linked to these pollutants.

About 140 participants, from 12 different states of India, presented their research work at the tow-day conference. The themes of the conference were: Water pollution and health; Soil and air pollution and health; Occupational exposure to contaminants and health status; Pesticide toxicity and health; Role of microplastics in health; Heavy metal contamination and disease; Role of pollution in cancer; Biodiversity and the environment; Ecological perspectives and the environment; and Role of the microbiome in the environment.
