India’s First Constitution Museum to Commemorate 75th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Indian Constitution at O.P. Jindal Global University, sonipat

Hariyana / Sonipat : In a historic event, the Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, and the Hon’ble Minister of State for Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, inaugurated India’s first Constitution Museum at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), Sonipat. The ceremony was attended by Shri Naveen Jindal, the Founding Chancellor of JGU and Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), alongside other distinguished guests.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Shri Om Birla, highlighted the significance of the Constitution Museum, calling it a landmark initiative that will educate future generations about India’s Constitution. “This museum will illuminate the history, inception, and the immense efforts behind the creation of our Constitution,” he said. “It is not just a legal framework but a transformative document that has brought profound social, economic, and political change to our nation. Our Constitution stands as a guiding philosophy for a more just and inclusive society.”

Shri Birla also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call in 2015 for the celebration of Constitution Day, emphasizing the visionary ideas that shaped India’s Constitution and the continued relevance of its values in the country’s democratic journey.

The Guest of Honour, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, praised the museum for its tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution, and acknowledged the cornerstone values of equality, liberty, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution. He also commended the efforts of Shri Naveen Jindal for promoting national pride, including the respectful display of the Indian National Flag by citizens.

Shri Naveen Jindal, the Chancellor of JGU, spoke about the importance of constitutionalism in safeguarding individual rights and limiting government power. “The Constitution Museum serves as a reminder of the vision of our Founding Fathers, encapsulating their foresight in balancing individual rights with state power. It’s a tribute to our enduring commitment to justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity,” he said.

Professor (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, the Founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, expressed his gratitude to the distinguished guests and shared details about the ongoing National Convention on the Constitution of India, taking place from 23rd to 25th November. The convention features speakers from across the legal and public life spectrum, including former Chief Justices, Supreme Court judges, parliamentarians, and scholars.

Using cutting-edge technology, the museum offers a 360-degree visual experience of pre-independence India and the drafting of the Constitution.One of the museum’s key exhibits is a photolithographic reproduction of the original Constitution of India, signed by the nation’s Founding Fathers. The museum also pays special tribute to the women members of the Constituent Assembly, with animations showcasing their significant contributions.The museum also features sculptural tributes to nearly 300 members of the Constituent Assembly and explores the global inspirations behind the Constitution, highlighting how international ideas were adapted to suit India’s diverse needs.A standout feature is the hologram exhibit of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, bringing his speeches and vision to life. The museum also showcases several art installations, including sculptures that embody the core constitutional values of unity, justice, equality, and freedom.
