CUTN and NUALS Sign MoU to Foster Legal Education and Research Collaboration

Thiruvarur, 11th March 2025 : The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) and the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Ernakulam, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance academic collaboration and promote excellence in legal education and research. The MoU was officially signed on Tuesday, 11th March 2025, during a ceremony held at CUTN’s campus in Thiruvarur.

The agreement was signed by Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar of CUTN, and Dr. Lina Acca Mathew, Registrar of NUALS, in the presence of distinguished faculty and officials from both universities. The event was presided over by Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor of CUTN, and was attended by Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examinations; Dr. R. Parameshwaran, Librarian; Prof. G. Ravindran, Dean, School of Legal Studies, CUTN; Prof. S. Nagarajan, Dean of Academics, CUTN; Dr. S.K. Balashanmugam, Head (i/c), Department of Law; and Assistant Professors from the Department of Law, Bhagyalakshmi R and Dr. R. Chandrasekar.

The collaboration between CUTN and NUALS is aimed at advancing legal education, promoting joint research initiatives, and providing valuable academic and professional experiences for students, faculty, and researchers. Key areas of focus outlined in the MoU include joint research projects, student internships at both universities, and the organization of workshops, conferences, and seminars. Additionally, the universities will introduce new elective and certificate courses to enrich the academic experiences of students from both institutions.

Prof. M. Krishnan expressed his excitement about the partnership, noting, “This collaboration represents a significant opportunity for both CUTN and NUALS to create an ecosystem that fosters academic growth, research, and innovation in the field of law. We look forward to the positive impact it will have on students and the legal community.”

The MoU is expected to provide students with valuable exposure to advanced legal research while giving them access to internships that will offer practical experience in the legal field. It will also create a platform for faculty members and researchers to collaborate and exchange knowledge, enhancing the overall academic environment at both universities.

Following the MoU signing, Dr. Lina Acca Mathew delivered a special lecture at CUTN’s Department of Law titled, “Bridging Traditions and Justice from a Constitutional Perspective: Child Sexual Abuse and Indian Knowledge System.” The lecture highlighted the intersection of traditional Indian knowledge systems and modern legal frameworks in addressing critical social issues such as child sexual abuse.

This collaboration marks an important step in fostering the growth of legal education and research in India, bringing together the strengths of both CUTN and NUALS.
