University of Hyderabad and EPTRI Celebrate World Environment Day with Elocution Competition on Climate Action

Hyderabad : In observance of World Environment Day, the NSS Cell of the University of Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Telangana State Climate Change Centre’s Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI), organized an elocution competition themed “Be the Voice You Want to Hear – for Inclusive and Participatory Climate Action.”

The event aimed to spread awareness about ending plastic pollution, aligning with the global theme of World Environment Day 2025. Students from various departments showcased their oratory skills and shared thought-provoking perspectives on climate change and sustainability.

Dr. Rajesh Jonnalagadda, Director General of EPTRI, highlighted India’s commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070, emphasizing the vital role of both state and non-state actors in this mission. NSS Coordinator Dr. B. Krishnaiah underlined the importance of a strong policy ecosystem, financial support mechanisms, and institutional frameworks, while stressing the significant contributions of students and civil society organizations in fostering a carbon-neutral future.

The competition was adjudicated by Prof. Bindu Madhava Reddy and Dr. D. A. Ramu, who ensured a fair and professional evaluation process. Dr. J. Rajeswar and Dr. B. Krishnaiah moderated the event, with active support from research fellows and project associates from EPTRI.

Prizes were awarded to the winners, celebrating their impactful speeches and encouraging youth engagement in climate discourse. The event proved to be a dynamic platform for students to amplify their voices and advocate for meaningful, inclusive climate action.

This initiative not only raised awareness but also inspired collective responsibility towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
