Two-Day Workshop on Medicinal Plants Production via Hydroponics Concludes at BFUHS
Faridkot, May 23, 2025 : The two-day national-level training workshop on “Medicinal Plants Production through Hydroponics” concluded successfully today at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot. Held from May 22–23, the workshop was jointly organized by the University Centre of Excellence in Research (UCER) and the Regional-cum-Facilitation Centre (RCFC), North-1, under the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH.
Conceived under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Rajeev Sood, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of BFUHS, the event aimed to promote conservation, sustainable utilization, and cutting-edge hydroponic techniques for the cultivation of medicinal plan
More than 200 farmers actively engaged in the workshop, gaining hands-on knowledge and practical exposure to innovative and sustainable agricultural methods that balance economic benefits with ecological preservation.
The event featured six technical sessions led by domain experts including:
- Dr. Arun Chandan, Regional Director, RCFC-North-1, NMPB (Ministry of AYUSH)
- Mrs. Reeva Sood, Managing Director, Agriva Naturally
- Dr. Ashish R. Warghat, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT, Palampur
- Sh. Hardeep Singh Kingra (IFS Retd.), Former Additional Secretary
- Dr. Rajnish Kumar, Roud Glass Foundation
- Sh. Gurkirpal Singh, Agro-entrepreneur
An international online presentation by In-Hydro, a global expert organization, showcased global best practices in hydroponic cultivation of medicinal plants, offering participants a valuable global perspective.
A hands-on training session was held on the final day at Sh. Hardeep Singh Kingra’s hydroponic farm, where participants observed live demonstrations of hydroponic cultivation methods for medicinal plants such as Kutki and Brahmi.
During the valedictory session, Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Director, UCER, felicitated student winners of the poster presentation competition, recognizing their creativity and engagement with the theme.
The workshop reinforced BFUHS’s steadfast commitment to fostering innovation in health sciences, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation—aligning traditional knowledge with modern technology for holistic development.
