Talk on Goan Identity and Cultural Heritage Held at Goa Multi-Faculty College

Dharbandora (Goa) :
The Department of Library and Information Science, Goa Multi-Faculty College (GMFC), Dharbandora, in collaboration with the Department of Konkani, organised an academic talk on “Goan Identity and Cultural Heritage: Significance of Opinion Poll Day” on January 13, 2026, at the College Hall.

The programme commenced with an inaugural address by the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Shaikh Mohammad Parvez Al-Usmani, who highlighted the historical importance of Opinion Poll Day in Goa’s democratic journey. He emphasised the responsibility of the younger generation to preserve Goa’s unique cultural, linguistic, and social identity, which was safeguarded through the historic Opinion Poll.

The resource person, Mr. Dattaram Fale, delivered an engaging and interactive lecture explaining the historical background, democratic significance, and constitutional relevance of Opinion Poll Day. Through relevant examples, he encouraged students to reflect critically on their role in protecting Goa’s cultural heritage and underlined the importance of public participation in democratic processes. He also discussed the long-term social and political impact of the Opinion Poll on Goan society.

The programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, who engaged meaningfully with the subject through discussion and interaction. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Miss Karishma K. Satarkar, College Librarian, acknowledging the efforts of the organisers and the valuable insights shared during the session.
