Universities, colleges, and students can play a transformative role in community development, said Dr. Nagendra Kumar, Director General of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR).
He was speaking at the valedictory session of the Six-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) held at the University of Hyderabad on Saturday. Dr. Kumar emphasized that universities should actively participate in preparing Gram Panchayat development plans and contribute to the localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Students must be trained in community-level problem-solving skills to achieve sustainable rural transformation,” he said.
Dr. Vasuki Belavadi, Director of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), University of Hyderabad, stated that the real success of CBPR lies in achieving meaningful grassroots transformation. He thanked the resource persons and faculty participants for making the FDP a success.
Dr. Anshuman Karol, Subject Expert from Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), urged participants to carry forward the principles of participatory research in their respective institutions. He noted that the impact of CBPR would multiply when universities replicate similar orientation programmes.
