Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Graces BFUHS Annual Convocation

The Annual Convocation of the constituent colleges of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot was held with great dignity and academic pride at the Auditorium of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot. His Excellency Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of BFUHS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
A total of 139 graduates from various constituent colleges of the University were awarded their degrees. Additionally, 10 Gold Medals and 11 Silver Medals were conferred upon meritorious students for outstanding academic performance, marking a proud milestone for the University and its graduating healthcare professionals.

Several landmark initiatives were unveiled during the Convocation, including the e-inauguration of the Human Milk Bank, the official launch of the BFUHS Flag and University Anthem, and the introduction of a Blood Donation Van under the CSR initiative of Kotak Mahindra Bank. The University also released a special Booklet on e-Initiatives and the HSLIBNET Consortium, aimed at strengthening digital access and health sciences education across the University system.
The event was attended by an eminent gathering of dignitaries, including Sh. Anurag Kundu, Member, Punjab Development Commission; S. Gurdit Singh Sekhon, Member, Board of Management and MLA, Faridkot; Dr. Rajinder Bansal, Member, Board of Management; Smt. Punamdeep Kaur, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Faridkot; Dr. Pragya Jain, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Faridkot; Sh. Arvind Kumar, Registrar; Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Controller of Examinations; Dr. Deepak J. Bhatti, Dean Colleges; and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Principal, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College.

Addressing the gathering, His Excellency Shri Gulab Chand Kataria congratulated the graduating students and commended BFUHS for its remarkable progress in medical education, healthcare delivery, sustainability, and digital transformation. He appreciated the University’s health-skilling initiatives, industry partnerships, and efforts to make healthcare education employment-oriented and socially responsive. He noted that BFUHS has emerged as a model institution in Punjab, combining academic excellence with compassion, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Rajeev Sood, Vice-Chancellor, BFUHS, described the Convocation as a defining moment for graduates stepping into professional service. He highlighted the period from 2023 to 2025 as a golden phase in the University’s history, marked by the doubling of MBBS seats at GGSMC Faridkot, establishment of new specialty and super-specialty departments, strengthening of digital and library infrastructure, introduction of new academic programmes, revival of PhD programmes, staff regularization under Punjab Government policy, and international recognition including the International Green University Award.

Prof. Sood further informed that BFUHS has launched the Short Term Training (STT) Programme under PMKVY 4.0 (FY 2025–26) in the Health and Caregiving sector, covering Geriatric Caregiver and Elderly Caretaker roles. He stated that 25,000 candidates have been allotted by MSDE, with the programme to be implemented through a Hub and Spoke Model, with AIIMS Bathinda as the Nodal Centre and BFUHS as the Hub, supported by BFUHS institutions, Army hospitals, and Government Skill Training Centres across Punjab.
Dr. Gurpreet Singh Wander, Chairman, Board of Management, BFUHS, congratulated the graduates and emphasized lifelong learning, compassion-based medicine, and the importance of adapting to rapidly evolving medical science while keeping humanity at the core of healthcare.
The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Punjab, who congratulated the University, faculty, parents, and students, and wished the graduates a future marked by service, integrity, and professional excellence.
The Convocation reaffirmed BFUHS’s commitment to producing skilled, ethical, and socially responsible healthcare professionals for Punjab and the nation.
