Prof. Nagaraju Gundemeda Appointed to Telangana Education Commission’s Working Group on School Education Quality

Hyderabad, May 22 : Prof. Nagaraju Gundemeda, Head of the Department of Sociology at the School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been appointed as a member of the Working Group on “Quality of School Education” under the Telangana Education Commission (TEC). This appointment is a recognition of his scholarly expertise and long-standing contributions to the field of education and sociology.

The Telangana Education Commission is tasked with drafting comprehensive educational policies for the state. As part of its initiative, the TEC has constituted various working groups to focus on specific sub-sectors of education and recommend reforms. Prof. Gundemeda will serve on the working group responsible for identifying key issues and proposing actionable reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of school education in Telangana within a 45-day timeframe.

Prof. Gundemeda brings with him an impressive body of research in sociology of education, youth studies, and comparative sociologies of schooling. His work critically engages with themes such as teacher agency, schooling for girls, discriminatory practices in schools, and the social contexts influencing learning and achievement, particularly at the elementary level.

Widely published and actively involved in both national and international research collaborations, Prof. Gundemeda’s academic insights are expected to significantly enrich the deliberations and outcomes of the working group.
