Overwhelming Response to ‘Vrihat Bharat’ National Seminar at MGM University
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar / Gandheli : The National Seminar ‘Vrihat Bharat’, organized by Vidya-Aranyam Sankula, a rural educational cluster of two schools and a junior college at MGM Gandheli, in collaboration with Mahagami Gurukul Sangeet Academy and supported by MGM University, received an overwhelming response. The day-long seminar attracted more than 600 participants, including students, educators, researchers, and heritage enthusiasts from across India.
The event, curated by Guru Parwati Dutta, aimed to explore the concept of ‘Vrihat Bharat’—a cultural and historical idea, not a political one. In her curatorial speech, Guru Parwati Dutta explained that ‘Vrihat Bharat’ refers to a vast geographical and cultural entity that spans over 5000 years, encompassing not just India but also around 20 modern-day countries of the Indian Subcontinent. These regions share a common heritage reflected in their arts, technology, trade, and philosophy.
The seminar kicked off with an invocation and lamp lighting by prominent dignitaries, followed by a series of enlightening talks. Faculty members from MGM University presented on topics such as “Ancient Music and Temples of Vrihat Bharat”. Dr. Nilangekar gave an insightful talk on the Sanskrit language, followed by an engaging session by Dr. Jayashree Rajagopalan on Bharat Muni’s Natyashastra and its influence on ancient dance forms. Scholar Arjun Bharadwaj discussed ancient drama forms from South Asia, while Guru Parwati Dutta delved into the concept of the human body as a temple, explored through classical dance and symbolic performance.
A highlight of the seminar was a mesmerizing Odissi performance by students of Guru Parwati Dutta, who showcased Buddhist themes like ‘Nairatmyaa’ and ‘Taarini’, drawing inspiration from Buddhist legends, philosophy, and ancient art forms such as the Aurangabad Caves.
The seminar concluded with an interactive quiz session, where participants eagerly responded to questions based on the various topics discussed throughout the day. The event was deemed a great success, with around 300 attendees traveling from different parts of the country to be a part of this unique conference.
The seminar was graced by distinguished personalities including Shri C.P. Tripathi (Industrialist), Smt. Vaidya (Convenor, INTACH), Dr. Gadekar (Registrar, MGM University), and several eminent educators and professionals, all of whom contributed to the event’s success. The ‘Vrihat Bharat’ seminar marked a significant milestone in fostering deeper understanding and appreciation for the shared cultural and historical heritage of the Indian subcontinent.
