The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Laghu Udyog Bharati (LUB) to enhance vocational education, skill development, and industry–education collaboration across the country. The partnership marks a significant step towards aligning skill-based education with evolving industry requirements.

The LoI was signed under the guidance and leadership of Prof. Akhilesh Mishra, Hon’ble Chairman, NIOS, and Shri Kripashankar Ji, Kshetriya Prachar Pramukh, Laghu Udyog Bharati, reflecting a shared vision of strengthening workforce readiness and employability through structured industry engagement.

Focus on Industry-Oriented Vocational Education

The initiative has been conceptualised and will be implemented under the leadership of Dr. T. N. Giri, Director (Vocational Education), NIOS, whose sustained efforts in promoting learner-centric vocational education and strengthening industry linkages have played a key role in shaping this collaboration.

The Letter of Intent was formally signed by Col. Shakeel Ahmad, Secretary, NIOS, and Shri Om Prakash Gupta, National General Secretary, Laghu Udyog Bharati, on behalf of their respective organisations.

Industrial Meet at NIOS Headquarters

The signing ceremony took place during an Industrial Meet jointly organised by NIOS and Laghu Udyog Bharati at the NIOS Headquarters, Noida, in the presence of industry leaders, stakeholders, and senior officials from both organisations.

The LoI reflects the mutual intent of NIOS and Laghu Udyog Bharati to jointly explore opportunities in:

  • Structured and demand-driven skill training
  • Academic and industry collaboration
  • Development of industry-supported training infrastructure
  • Enhancing employability of vocational learners

Leadership Speaks

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Akhilesh Mishra expressed confidence that the collaboration would significantly strengthen workforce readiness and employability of NIOS vocational learners, while also contributing to the academic upskilling of the existing workforce in the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector.

He emphasized that partnerships between educational institutions and industry bodies are essential to creating a future-ready, skilled workforce aligned with national development goals.
