National Seminar on “Green Campus: Role of Universities in Climate Change Resilience” Held at BFUHS
Faridkot : Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, organized a National Seminar on “Green Campus: Role of Universities in Climate Change Resilience” at the Auditorium, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot. The seminar brought together experts, policymakers, and academicians to discuss the vital role of universities in addressing climate change challenges and promoting sustainability.


Prof Dr Rajeev Sood, Vice Chancellor, BFUHS, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the university’s consistent efforts towards sustainability, including the achievement of the International Green University Award. He emphasized the importance of educational institutions in leading environmental conservation through initiatives like plantation drives, waste management, and energy conservation.
S Gurdit Singh Sekhon, Member and MLA Faridkot, lauded BFUHS’s commendable efforts in bringing students and the community closer to nature through its extensive plantation initiatives. He stressed the need for individuals to reconnect with the environment to combat the adverse effects of climate change.
Er Pritpal Singh, Executive Director, PSCST, Govt of Punjab, delivered a special address on the State Action Plan for Climate Change and the critical role of healthcare institutions in climate resilience. Dr Arun Chandan, Regional Director, RCFC-North-1, NMPB, shared insights on the conservation and promotion of medicinal plants as a sustainable practice.
Reeva Sood, MD, Agriva Naturally, encouraged the audience to adopt a sustainable mindset by actively participating in plantation drives and ensuring the long-term care of planted saplings.
Other notable speakers included Jit Kumar (Former Advisor, PUDA) and Dr Kanhaiya Kadam (Chairman, KK Herbal Industries), who provided strategic insights on carbon footprint reduction and green infrastructure development.
The seminar witnessed the presence of eminent dignitaries, including Dr R K Gorea, Registrar, BFUHS, Dr Rajiv Joshi, Controller of Examinations, Dr Rohit Chopra, Additional Registrar, Dr Sanjay Gupta, Principal, GGSMCH, Dr Neetu Kukar, Medical Superintendent, along with faculty members and students from BFUHS’s constituent colleges.
A skit on environmental awareness was presented by Phytomedicine students, promoting eco-consciousness. During the event, an abstract book compiling the key discussions and findings of the seminar was released. As part of the green initiative, Ashwagandha plants were distributed to the attendees to promote sustainable healthcare practices.
The seminar concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr R K Gorea, Registrar, BFUHS, who appreciated the speakers, participants, and organizing committee for their valuable contributions towards making the event a success.
