Nagaland University’s School of Agricultural Sciences Hosts Training for Manipur Farmers
Zunheboto : The School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) at Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, conducted a two-day Interstate Training and Exposure Program (November 7-8, 2024) for ten farmers from Senapati district, Manipur. Organized under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), the initiative aimed to advance the visiting farmers’ skills and knowledge in modern farming techniques.
The program commenced with an opening session led by NU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Akali Sema and SAS Dean Prof L Daiho, who emphasized the importance of agricultural development in the region. The event was coordinated by Dr Mary N Odyuo, in charge of the Farmers Cell (FC), with support from FC members Dr Lanunola Tzudir, Dr Sentimenla Jamir, and Dr Deepa Thangjam, who organized guided tours of the university’s facilities.
On the first day, the farmers visited various research and farming facilities, such as the STINER center, Vermi-compost unit, Mushroom unit, and Horticulture farm. These tours provided practical exposure to innovative agricultural practices.
The second day included a training session on Integrated Pest Management (IPM), led by Dr Sabbithi Pavan from the Department of Entomology. The training focused on sustainable pest control strategies to equip farmers with effective pest management skills. The program concluded with a tour of the Entomology Museum, offering farmers hands-on learning in pest identification.
This initiative reflects Nagaland University’s commitment to fostering agricultural collaboration and sustainable practices in Northeast India.
