Nagaland University Hosts Workshop on Application of Statistical Software and AI in Social Science Research
Nagaland, 17th March 2025: The Department of Economics at Nagaland University inaugurated a three-day workshop on “Application of Statistical Software and AI in Social Science Research” on March 17, 2025. The workshop, which will continue until March 19, 2025, aims to equip participants with advanced skills in statistical software tools and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research methodologies for social sciences.
The event kicked off with an inspiring speech by the Chief Patron, Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, who emphasized the growing significance of statistical software in modern-day research. He also highlighted the potential of AI in enhancing the quality and efficiency of academic studies. Prof. Patnaik congratulated the Department of Economics for organizing the workshop and underlined its role in advancing research excellence at the university.

The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Renbeni Kikon, Assistant Professor and Organizing Secretary of the workshop. Prof. Y. Temjenzulu Jamir, Head of the Department of Economics, welcomed the attendees with a formal address, while Prof. T. Zarenthung Ezung delivered the Vote of Thanks. Prof. B. Kilangla Jamir serves as the Convenor of the workshop.
The first day of the workshop featured a session by Dr. Saurabh Agarwal, Professor of Machine Learning & Data Analytics at HBTU Kanpur, who is also a Consultant and Trainer for IBM and UNESCO. Dr. Agarwal conducted an in-depth, hands-on session on using R software for data analysis, providing participants with practical knowledge of statistical techniques and their application in social science research. His session was designed to empower attendees with the skills needed to conduct data-driven research in their respective fields.
Faculty members, research scholars, and students from various departments of Nagaland University actively participated in the workshop, creating an interactive and collaborative learning environment. The workshop is expected to be a valuable learning experience, further enhancing the university’s research capacity in the social sciences.
The event continues until March 19, 2025, with more expert-led sessions on advanced statistical software and AI applications in social science research.
