Varanasi: A high-level academic and research dialogue, Med-Tech Samvad, focusing on the convergence of medical science and technology, was successfully organized at the The event brought together eminent academicians and faculty members from IMS–Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and IIT (BHU) to deliberate on advancing healthcare through innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial garlanding of the statue of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya by the distinguished guests, paying tribute to his visionary contributions to education and nation-building.

Welcoming the gathering, Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Dean (Research & Development), IIT (BHU), emphasized the growing importance of interdisciplinary research and the integration of medical sciences with advanced technologies to address societal challenges.

In his opening remarks, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of BHU, Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, highlighted the strong collaborative framework between BHU and IIT (BHU). He noted that joint academic and research initiatives in medical science and technology are academically enriching and have immense potential to positively impact society and the nation.

Addressing the audience, the Hon’ble Director, IMS-BHU, Prof. Satya Narayan Sankhwar, assured full support to faculty members of BHU and IIT (BHU) in pursuing socially relevant research. He stressed the need for closer collaboration between medical professionals and technologists to develop affordable and accessible healthcare solutions.

Following the formal introduction by Prof. R. N. Chaurasia, the inaugural address was delivered by the Chief Guest, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Padma Bhushan awardee, renowned cardiac surgeon, and Founder & Chairman of Narayana Health. Dr. Shetty highlighted the transformative role of technology and artificial intelligence in healthcare, citing digital health records, AI-driven diagnostics, and advanced medical technologies as key enablers of timely, accurate, and personalized patient care.

Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Dean (Academics), IMS-BHU, and Prof. Gopal Nath, Dean (Research), IMS-BHU, also addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of structured academic programmes and robust research ecosystems in strengthening Med-Tech collaboration.

In his concluding remarks, the Hon’ble Director, IIT (BHU), Prof. Amit Patra, highlighted that collaboration between medical and technical institutions can lead to indigenous technology development, cost-effective healthcare solutions, and enhanced global recognition for Indian research institutions. He also announced a Challenge Grant to encourage collaborative partnerships.

An interactive session followed, where faculty members discussed challenges, opportunities, and future directions in medical technology research and innovation. Existing collaborations and prospects for new joint initiatives between IIT (BHU) and BHU were explored. Prof. Ruchir Gupta, IIT (BHU), served as the overall coordinator of the event, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Pradip Paik, Associate Dean (R&D), IIT (BHU).

Med-Tech Samvad reaffirmed the shared commitment of BHU, IIT (BHU), and IMS-BHU to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration aimed at advancing healthcare through innovation and technology for the greater social good.
