In today’s digital era, libraries are no longer mere repositories of books but have evolved into centres of knowledge creation, research, and innovation, said Dr. Laxmikant Dama, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Solapur University.

He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the Library Capacity Building Workshop, organised by the Karmaveer Dr. Mamasaheb Jagdale Knowledge Resource Centre in collaboration with the PM-USHA Cell of the university. Dr. Dama presided over the concluding session of the workshop.

Dr. Dama emphasised that the role of librarians has expanded significantly, and enhancing their professional competencies is crucial for improving the quality of higher education. He highlighted the need for continuous upskilling in modern library systems, digital tools, and research support services.

The workshop featured expert guidance from Dr. Dhananjay Sutar, Director, Knowledge Resource Centre, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, and Dr. Shivaji Kamble, Wai. They provided in-depth insights into emerging technologies in library management, effective use of e-resources, and the growing importance of research support services.

Providing details about the workshop, Dr. Anil Ghanwat, In-charge Director of the Knowledge Resource Centre, stated that the primary objective was to strengthen professional skills of librarians and library staff by equipping them with updated knowledge on modern library systems, digital resources, and user-centric services.

A total of 110 librarians, library staff, and students from various affiliated colleges of the university participated in the workshop. On this occasion, retired Director of the University Library Prof. S. V. Lonikar and Prof. S. S. Suryawanshi, along with retired senior library assistants Shri P. T. Randive and Shri P. R. Jawale, were felicitated for their contributions.

Several participants, including Santosh Mane and Mahadev Chavan, shared their experiences during the programme. The event was anchored and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pallavi Sawant, Senior Library Assistant.
