Uttar Pradesh / Varanasi : The Infectious Disease Update 2024, a prestigious and highly impactful academic event organized by the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), concluded with remarkable success at the iconic K.N. Udupa Auditorium. This event was attended by >200 delegates from different parts of the country. The Infectious Disease Update 2024 was organized under the leadership of Prof. Shyam Sundar as the Organizing Chairman, Prof. Jaya Chakravarty as the Organizing Secretary, along with the unwavering support of Prof. L.P. Meena, Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine, and Prof. Manaswi Chaubey.Dr Jaya highlighted the growing prevalence of antibiotic resistance among patients referred to BHU and the need among health care workers to be updated on the newer treatment options for these infections.

The event commenced with a grand inauguration by the esteemed Prof. S.N. Sankhwar, Director of IMS BHU, alongside Prof. Ashok Kumar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Gopal Nath, Dean (Research). Their visionary words inspired the audience, emphasizing the critical importance of addressing emerging challenges in infectious diseases through collaboration and innovation.

The scientific sessions were enriched by the presence of eminent speakers from across the country, whose expertise captivated the audience. Dr. P. Senthur Nambi, an Infectious Diseases Specialist from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, delivered an insightful lecture on emerging therapies for carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative organisms. Dr. Atul Gogia, Senior Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, presented a fascinating assortment of interesting infectious disease cases, which sparked engaging discussions. The session by Dr. B.B. Rewari, who had been the National Program officer at NACO and established the ART program in India deliberated on the current standard of Care of HIV patients and beyond. Dr. V. Ramasubramanian, an expert from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, offered a comprehensive analysis of fungal infections in the ICU, addressing critical care concerns. Lastly, Dr. Umang Agrawal, Infectious Diseases Consultant at PD Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, highlighted the growing threat posed by gram-positive organisms, bringing attention to urgent healthcare challenges.
