Inauguration of the Madhav & Sujata Godbole Reading Room at the GIPE Pune
Pune : The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics is proud to announce the inauguration of the Madhav & Sujata Godbole Reading Room at the Dr. Dhananjayrao Gadgil Library. This state-of-the-art facility has been established thanks to the generous contribution of Mrs. Meera Godbole Krishnamurthy, daughter of the late Shri Madhav Godbole, former Union Home Secretary. The reading room, envisioned to provide an inspiring and conducive environment for learning and research, was conceptualized by former Vice Chancellor Dr. Ajit Ranade.
The inauguration event was graced by Mr. V. Balachandran (IPS, Retd.), Former Special Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India, who served as the Chief Guest. Mr. Balachandran made a meaningful contribution to the library by donating four of his authored books, further enriching the library’s repository.
Faculty members, along with noted dignitaries, gathered to commemorate the occasion and honor the memory of Madhav and Sujata Godbole, whose legacy of intellectual excellence continues to inspire generations.
Prof. Anurag Asawa chaired the event, highlighting the importance of this new addition to the library in fostering academic pursuit. Our librarian, Dr. Nanaji Shewale delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to making the vision of the Madhav & Sujata Godbole Reading Room a reality.
Mrs. Meera Godbole Krishnamurthy shared that ‘if it were true that there is an afterlife, I am sure that they both will know of this reading room and I won’t be surprised if I ever encounter my parents wandering in this very room.‘
Speaking at the event, Mr. V. Balachandran remarked:
“There can be nothing more appropriate than this remarkable reading room to honor the lives of my close friends. This is the embodiment of their soul and mind.“
The Madhav & Sujata Godbole Reading Room stands as a testament to the enduring power of knowledge and the importance of creating spaces that encourage intellectual growth and curiosity.
