Students stand a chance to win prizes worth ₹10 lakh; registration open till June 15

Jalandhar/Kapurthala : In a unique initiative to foster financial awareness and digital innovation, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU), in collaboration with Punjab & Sindh Bank, has announced the launch of “Hackathon 2025” — a student-centric literacy program and competition focused on secure and informed financial education.

Targeting engineering students from all streams, including those from affiliated colleges and the university’s main campus, the hackathon aims to promote personal financial literacy and help prevent fraud through the creation of innovative digital tools. Participants will be challenged to develop a mobile application that educates users about secure financial practices and provides safeguards against digital scams.

The registration window is open until June 15, and selected teams stand to win prizes totaling ₹10 lakh, with the first prize worth ₹5 lakh, second prize ₹3 lakh, and third prize ₹2 lakh. All shortlisted participants will also receive certificates of appreciation.

University Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Susheel Mittal has urged students to seize this opportunity wholeheartedly, emphasizing the benefits of collaborative innovation and practical learning.

“Such platforms allow students to sharpen their skills, collaborate in teams, and contribute to a safer digital future. I encourage maximum participation from all campuses,” said Dr. Mittal.

According to the organizing committee spokesperson, the initiative aligns with the efforts of the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Financial Services, Government of India, under the theme “Secure and Aware Financial Education.” The program intends to build a culture of responsible digital finance through innovation and youth participation.

Participants can compete in teams of 3–5 students, with one faculty coordinator per team. Evaluation will be based on innovation, technical feasibility, commercial potential, scalability, user experience, and multilingual support in the developed mobile app.

All relevant details, including registration guidelines and rules, are available on the university’s official website:
