For Strengthen India–Taiwan Semiconductor Collaboration

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has taken a significant step towards strengthening the India–Taiwan semiconductor partnership by collaborating with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taiwan, and Ampak Technology Inc., a leading Taiwanese company specialising in advanced wireless communication modules.

The collaboration was reinforced during the visit of Prof. Li-Chun Wang, Distinguished Chair Professor and Dean, College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NYCU, and Mr. Ming-Jer Chen, CEO of Ampak Technology Inc., to the IIT Gandhinagar campus on 13–14 January 2026.

During the visit, extensive discussions were held on joint academic programmes, faculty and student exchange initiatives, and collaborative research in key areas such as integrated circuit (IC) design, artificial intelligence, semiconductor systems, and advanced manufacturing. The partnership is expected to provide IITGN students with hands-on industry exposure and foster cross-disciplinary skills and innovation.

Highlighting the global strategic importance of semiconductors, Prof. Li-Chun Wang said that supply-chain resilience and long-term cooperation are essential in the current geopolitical landscape. He emphasised that India–Taiwan collaboration should span AI, systems design, and manufacturing, supported by strong academic ecosystems and talent development.

Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, stated that the collaboration aligns with IITGN’s vision to build strong international partnerships in advanced technologies. With Gujarat emerging as a growing semiconductor hub, such initiatives will prepare students for leadership roles in the national and global semiconductor ecosystem.

Mr. Ming-Jer Chen, CEO of Ampak Technology Inc., interacted extensively with students, sharing insights into industry-driven innovation, IC design, manufacturing, and advanced packaging. He praised the quality of research, laboratories, and student talent at IIT Gandhinagar, noting strong potential for long-term collaboration.

As part of the engagement, IITGN students and faculty presented their ongoing research in areas including semiconductor materials, AI and machine learning, quantum computing, battery technology, and wearable electronics. Prof. Wang also delivered a special address highlighting academic and research opportunities at NYCU, encouraging students to pursue global research pathways.

Prof. Bhaskar Datta, Dean of Academics, IIT Gandhinagar, expressed optimism about the launch of joint academic programmes with NYCU, stating that such initiatives would significantly benefit undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen India–Taiwan academic and industry ties, serving as a global model for cross-border cooperation in semiconductor research, education, and innovation.
