IIT Bombay Hosts WiSE 2025: Empowering Rural Girls Through STEM

Over 200 Young Minds From Maharashtra & Karnataka Join for a Transformative Week in Science & Engineering

Mumbai : IIT Bombay has launched the WiSE 2025 (Women in Science & Engineering) program, a week-long initiative running from May 26 to 30, aimed at inspiring and empowering young girls from rural and tribal areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka through immersive STEM experiences.

The program has brought together around 200 bright 10th-grade girls and their women teachers from 68 schools, offering them an unparalleled opportunity to engage with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a hands-on, creative, and mentorship-driven environment.

At the heart of WiSE 2025 is the Break-Make-Program (BMP) — an innovative, experiential learning component using specially designed STEM kits developed by IIT Bombay’s aiCAS lab. These kits not only allow students to explore scientific principles practically but will also be taken back to their respective schools, enabling the girls to lead peer-based STEM activities and foster a wider culture of curiosity and innovation.

Adding a personal and inspirational touch, accomplished women from diverse fields, referred to as Winspirers, engage with the participants daily as guest speakers. These interactions are designed to broaden horizons and provide role models who have broken barriers in their respective domains.

The program’s impact is intended to be long-lasting, supported by continued mentorship from IIT Bombay students, and the involvement of parents and teachers, creating a supportive ecosystem for the participants.

Visitors are invited to witness this incredible initiative at VMCC and Design Thinking Studio, and engage with India’s future — young, curious, and ready to lead.
