IIM Jammu Commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s Historic Chicago Address on Vishwa Bandutva Diwas

Jammu :The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, under the visionary leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, in collaboration with the Ramakrishna Mission, organized a special commemorative event at its Jagti Campus to mark the 132nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the Parliament of Religions, Chicago (1893). Observed as Vishwa Bandutva Diwas (World Brotherhood Day), the occasion celebrated the timeless message of universal harmony, peace, and the spirit of Nation First.

The event began with a lamp-lighting ceremony followed by a warm welcome to esteemed guests, including Swami Yajnadharananda and Swami Vijayeshananda (Ramakrishna Mission Jammu), Prof. Nitin Upadhyay (Dean Academics), Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal (Chairperson, Anandam), Brigadier Neeraj Soni (Co-Chairperson, Anandam), Shri Raman Gupta Ji (Managing Director, PANS & POTS CO Group), and Cmdr. Kesavan Baskkaran (CAO, IIM Jammu).

In his keynote, Swami Vijayeshananda highlighted that Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 address was “the voice of India’s soul,” igniting global awareness about unity, tolerance, and spiritual strength. He reflected on Swamiji’s courage and universal acceptance, reminding the audience of his famous call, “Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.”

Delivering the Presidential Address, Swami Yajnadharananda emphasized Swamiji’s enduring call for universal brotherhood and the power of youth. He lauded Vivekananda’s unwavering character, which embodied the values he preached, and encouraged everyone to practice acceptance and service as the highest forms of worship.

Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, in his opening remarks, stressed that education must shape character as well as intellect, urging students to embrace compassion, inclusivity, and service to humanity.

A student speaker shared how Swamiji’s mantra, “Arise, Awake, and Stop Not till the Goal is Reached,” inspires today’s youth to strive for national progress and global harmony.

In his closing address, Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal underscored Swami Vivekananda’s foresight on holistic well-being—mind, body, and spirit—long before these became modern concepts. He reaffirmed Anandam’s mission to nurture leaders with inner strength and outer balance.

The program concluded with a soulful closing song by Swami Vijayeshananda, creating an atmosphere of reflection, peace, and spiritual upliftment. Shri Raman Gupta Ji delivered the Vote of Thanks, urging students to carry forward Swami Vivekananda’s vision of unity and purposeful living.

Through this collaboration, IIM Jammu reaffirmed its commitment to shaping socially responsible leaders rooted in inclusivity, resilience, and the timeless ideals of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
