Goa Institute of Management Integrates VR Lab
Across PGDM Programs to Strengthen Experiential Learning
GOA, January 7, 2026:
Goa Institute of Management (GIM) has taken a pioneering step in management education by integrating Virtual Reality (VR) labs across all its Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programs, significantly strengthening experiential and immersive learning.
Moving beyond traditional teaching tools such as case studies, videos, and role-play exercises, the VR-enabled curriculum allows students to enter realistic, simulated environments that replicate real-world market complexities, customer behaviour, and operational challenges.
The VR lab has been formally introduced in the 2025–26 academic curriculum across key subjects including Marketing, Organisational Behaviour, Healthcare, and Services Management. This initiative aligns closely with GIM’s mission to develop future-ready managers equipped with agility, judgment, and cross-functional decision-making skills demanded by today’s fast-evolving industries.
Preparing Managers for a Complex Future
Speaking on the initiative, Prof. Ajit Parulekar, Director, Goa Institute of Management, said:
“Considering the unseen challenges of tomorrow, it is essential for today’s managers to be prepared for a world defined by rapid change and complex decision-making. GIM’s VR initiative enables students to practise navigating these challenges in realistic environments and build the confidence that employers expect. This module ensures our graduates are industry-ready from day one.”
The VR lab bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world managerial challenges by offering interactive, consequence-driven experiences that deepen conceptual understanding and enhance strategic thinking.
Advanced Infrastructure and Global Learning Resources
To ensure effective implementation, GIM has installed over 130 PICO and Jio VR headsets, supported by INSEAD’s VR content library, Jio’s interactive environments, and custom-built AI-assisted scenario tools and micro-simulators.
Since its introduction, more than 750 students across PGDM programmes have participated in multiple immersive learning sessions.
Through VR-based decision-making labs, virtual service encounters, hospital walk-throughs, market simulations, and industry-specific scenarios, students can redesign customer journeys, test managerial strategies, and experiment with business models in realistic, high-impact settings.

Enhanced Learning Outcomes and Employability
Highlighting the academic impact, Prof. Pravat Surya Kar, Associate Professor (Marketing), GIM, stated:
“VR is a powerful tool for deeper learning, placing students in context-rich and consequence-driven environments that enhance decision-making capability. Students found the simulations highly engaging, easy to use, and expressed strong interest in expanding VR-enabled learning to more subjects.”
The VR-driven learning model strengthens key employability skills such as:
- Cross-functional and situational judgment
- Rapid scenario analysis
- Tech-enabled problem-solving and business design
- Managerial confidence and adaptability
Future Expansion Plans
As part of its next phase, GIM plans to expand VR integration into research on consumer behaviour, service operations, and Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) market immersion. Upcoming initiatives include co-creating VR experiences with industry partners, collaborative projects with hospitals and tourism stakeholders, and immersive field studies with local enterprises in Goa.
With this initiative, Goa Institute of Management continues to set new benchmarks in technology-driven management education in India, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, experiential learning, and industry relevance.
