DECA : Young Artists Unite for Powerful Exhibition at Banaras Hindu University
Vaanasi : On the occassion of International Art Day a painting exhibition is being held at Ahivasi Art Gallery, Faculty of Visual Arts BHU. A group of ten young artists from the Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), have come together to present DECA, a thought-provoking and visually engaging art exhibition and a symbol of collective strength. The trem is derived from the Latin language means ten in numbers.

These ten artists- Joydeb Das, Kanumonu Venu, Vaishnavi Barnwal, Preetilata, Shivam Kumar Seth, Shivam Tripathi, Adarsh Yadav, Rishikesh Kumar, Varun Prajapati, and Yati Singh—have come together under the title DECA to present their creative expressions. Each of them brings a unique perspective shaped by their individual experiences, yet they are united by a shared journey as Master’s students in Painting at the Faculty of Visual Arts, BHU. Their collective effort in DECA reflects not only their artistic individuality but also the strength and synergy of working together as a group.
The exhibition explores a wide spectrum of contemporary themes, ranging from human relationships and identity to socio-cultural transitions and cosmic symbolism. The artists delve into the interplay between the physical and metaphysical, memory and change, and tradition and modernity. Influences from traditional Indian art forms, abstract symbolism, rural-urban contrasts, and environmental consciousness form the core of their expressions.
DECA is not merely a display of visual aesthetics but a collective statement—an artistic dialogue that reflects the restlessness, aspirations, and sensitivities of today’s youth. The works capture the tension between planning and execution, between heritage and transformation, and offer insights into the complex emotional and societal landscapes that shape young lives.
Curated by Dr Suresh Chandra Jangid, Assistant Professor at the Department of Painting, the exhibition serves as a platform for these emerging artists to express their creative voices and embark on a new journey. With energy, enthusiasm, and a spark of originality, DECA marks the beginning of what promises to be a compelling artistic voyage for this new generation.
The exhibition was inaugurated by eminent artists S Pranam Singh. He congratulated the young artists and encouraged them to keep going on the creative track.
The exhibition is currently open to the public at the Faculty of Visual Arts, BHU till 17th March, 2025.
