CUO Celebrates Makar Sankranti with Cultural Fervor and Tribute to Utkalmani Gopabandhu
Koraput : The Department of Education at Central University of Odisha (CUO) organized a special programme to celebrate Makar Sankranti on campus with enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy on 15 January 2025. The event was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chakradhar Tripathi, who addressed the university community in the presence of Prof. Bharat Kumar Panda, HoD of Education, and Dr. Kapila Khemundu, HoD of Sociology.
The celebration featured an exhibition of paintings dedicated to Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, a revered figure in Odisha’s history. Prof. Tripathi encouraged students to embrace Gopabandhu’s educational philosophy and motivated them to create illustrated books about his life for young readers.
Adding to the festivities, students of Gopabandhu Sadan presented a series of cultural programmes and shared insights into the diverse ways Makar Sankranti is celebrated across India. Prof. Panda, in his address, highlighted the significance of the Mahakumbh Mela, which occurs once in 144 years, and elaborated on the importance of Makar Sankranti. Dr. Khemundu provided a fascinating glimpse into the unique traditions of the Koraput tribe during this festival.
The programme was coordinated by faculty members of the Department of Education, including Dr. Om Prakash, Akshay Kumar Bhoi, Dr. Rahil Ahmed, Dr. Gagan Bihari Suar, Dr. K. V. N. Rao, Dr. Partha Pratim Das, and Dr. Ravita Pathak. The vote of thanks was delivered by Aditya Pradhan, a student of Gopabandhu Sadan.
The event witnessed the participation of a large number of students and faculty members, making it a memorable occasion.
