Central University of Odisha celebrates Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti  

Odisha : The Department of Sanskrit at the Central University of Odisha celebrated Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti with great reverence and enthusiasm on 02 May 2025, Friday. The event was graced by the presence of the Vice-Chancellor I/c., Prof. N. C. Panda, who presided over the proceedings and delivered an insightful address on the life and philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya.

Prof. Panda highlighted the relevance of Adi Shankaracharya’s teachings, particularly Advaita Vedanta, and urged students to draw inspiration from his contributions to Indian philosophy through works like the Brahma SutraVedas, and Upanishads.

The program began with a floral tribute to the portrait of Adi Shankaracharya, followed by a series of speeches and activities that underscored his enduring legacy. Distinguished faculty members including Dr. Chakradhar Pradhan, Head of the Hindi Department, and Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, also from the Hindi Department, attended the event alongside all faculty members from the Sanskrit Department.

A large number of students from both the Hindi and Sanskrit departments participated with enthusiasm. Dr. Naveen Kumar Pradhan of the Sanskrit Department efficiently conducted the program.

As part of the celebrations, two competitions were held under the banner of Gita Jayanti—a Gita Shlokavritti and a speech competition based on the Bhagavad Gita. Winners were felicitated with awards for securing the top three positions.

Faculty members Dr. Sanjeev Sarkar, Dr. Devasish Karmakar, Dr. Virendra Kumar Shadangi, and Mr. Satyavrat Mishra played pivotal roles in organizing the successful event. The celebration not only paid homage to one of India’s greatest spiritual icons but also aimed to foster cultural awareness and a deeper appreciation for Sanskrit among students.
