Capacity Building Programme Concludes at UGC-MMTTC, Central University of Gujarat
Understanding of Indian Knowledge System to Grow Through Capacity Building Programmes: Dr. Gopichand Merugu
Vadodara |
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is not a separate or standalone programme but an integrated approach that brings Indian perspectives, values, and concepts across all academic disciplines, said Dr. Gopichand Merugu, Joint Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC).
He was addressing the valedictory ceremony of a six-day Capacity Building Programme organised at UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Central University of Gujarat (CUG). Dr. Merugu stated that such programmes aim to strengthen understanding of the Indian knowledge system and promote its effective integration into curricula, enabling holistic education, character building, and research rooted in Indian thought.

Prof. Atanu Bhattacharya, Vice-Chancellor (I/c) of Central University of Gujarat, noted that the Indian knowledge system is not confined to Sanskrit or Pali alone but is also embedded in modern and regional Indian languages. “To truly understand it, one must explore multiple languages. It is not merely a tool but a philosophy,” he said.
Prof. H.B. Patel, Director of UGC-MMTTC and Registrar of CUG, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Jayprakash Singh, Programme Coordinator, presented the outline of the programme, while participants shared their learning experiences.

Dr. Rani Dadhich, UGC-appointed Observer, was present during the valedictory session.
During the six-day programme, 16 resource persons conducted 27 academic sessions, attended by 66 participants from various institutions. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Satyajeet Deshpande, Coordinator. The sessions were moderated by Hindi Translator Deepika Sharma.
