AIIMS Deoghar Launches Adult Immunisation OPD to Strengthen Preventive Healthcare in Jharkhand
Deoghar, February : In a significant step toward strengthening preventive healthcare services in Jharkhand, AIIMS Deoghar formally inaugurated its Adult Immunisation Outpatient Department (OPD) today.
The Adult Immunisation OPD was inaugurated by Executive Director & CEO Prof. (Dr.) Nitin Gangane, in the presence of Dean (Academics) Prof. (Dr.) Harmindar Singh, Head of the Department of Community and Family Medicine Prof. (Dr.) G. Jahnavi, Medical Superintendent & In-Charge Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar, and Deputy Director (Administration) Lt. Col. Abhik Das.

Dedicated Adult Vaccination Centre Under Department of Community and Family Medicine
The OPD has been established under the Department of Community and Family Medicine (CFM), with Dr. Arshad Ayub and Dr. Sunil Panigrahi serving as Adult Immunisation In-Charges. Faculty members including Dr. Vinaygamoorthy, Dr. Dibyanshu, Dr. Sudip, and Dr. Abha, along with senior residents, junior residents, and interns, were present during the inauguration ceremony.
Initially, the Adult Immunisation OPD will function three days a week and aims to serve as a one-stop centre for adult vaccination services in Deoghar and surrounding districts.
Vaccines Available at AIIMS Deoghar Adult Immunisation OPD
The centre will provide the following adult vaccines in the first phase:
- Rabies Vaccine
- TT (Tetanus Toxoid)
- Td (Tetanus and Diphtheria)
- Chickenpox Vaccine
- Influenza Vaccine
- Pneumococcal Vaccine
In subsequent phases, Traveller’s vaccines and other recommended adult vaccines will also be introduced.
Importance of Adult Immunisation
Adult immunisation plays a crucial role in preventing serious and potentially life-threatening diseases, especially among:
- Elderly individuals
- Healthcare workers
- International travellers
- Individuals with chronic illnesses

Vaccination is particularly beneficial for individuals with:
- Post-splenectomy status
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Diabetes Mellitus
- Chronic Kidney Disease
- High risk of adult pneumonia and invasive pneumococcal diseases
Timely immunisation significantly reduces morbidity, infection severity, hospitalisation rates, and preventable complications, thereby strengthening community health systems and promoting healthy ageing.
A Major Step Toward Preventive Healthcare in Deoghar
With the launch of the Adult Immunisation OPD, AIIMS Deoghar has taken a major initiative in expanding preventive healthcare services in Jharkhand. The institute has appealed to the people of Deoghar and nearby districts to avail themselves of this facility and ensure timely vaccination for a healthier and safer community.
This initiative is expected to greatly benefit the local population by improving access to structured adult vaccination services and reducing the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases.
